Preschool Circle Time – A Beneficial Activity to Start the Day

  • October 18, 2017

Starting off your day at preschool can be a bit hectic with young students. And while it’s sometimes tough to get their full attention, circle time can get your preschoolers on track for the day. Here’s why:

It Creates a Sense of Community

Your preschoolers can come together to greet each other for the day. This will teach them social skills, awareness of others and forming a sense of respect and support for one another.  This is also a great time for them to brainstorm and share their thoughts with one another, which will teach them how to listen well.

Children Respond Better to Routines

Circle time routines will help them learn to be a more confident participant, because they already know what to expect.  However, it’s important to have a bit of surprises on what’s in store for the day, like the book you’re planning on reading or identifying who is the helper of the day. Also, depending on the day, you may have to modify your routine and rearrange some things to be responsive to their behavior.

Activities Can Help With Their Attention Span

Toddlers and preschoolers won’t sit still for very long. Keeping it interactive can help them stay engaged and focused. Music and movements may fit with the type of book you’re going to read, the letter of the week or some other theme. Getting them up and moving for the day can get some of their energy out and set them on a calmer path.
